Ms BURNET (Clark) – Deputy Speaker, I also put on record my condolences to Alderman Jan Dunsby’s family. The member for Clark, Ms Johnston spoke very long and fondly of alderman Dunsby. It is not an easy gig in local government, and she worked extremely hard for her community, so vale Jan Dunsby.

I want to also touch on a number of other things during this Adjournment speech. Last week, I had the great honour to attend the Children’s University graduations. This was one of a number of Children’s University graduations and there were many schools from Clark, amongst others. I will highlight Rosetta, Bowen Road, Cosgrove High School, Hobart High and Goodwood Primary School students. It was wonderful to see them graduate, doing some extra time and extracurricular studies with the help of their teachers, their carers, their family, their parents. The Underwood Centre is doing good work to help with children’s education. Leanne McLean is the new director, and I extend thanks to the capabilities of Ms McLean and her staff.

Honourable Speaker, you may have been to some Musica Viva concerts. They have been an organisation that has had a long partnership with the City of Hobart, with the transformation of the ballroom in the Town Hall at Hobart for various concerts, including chamber music concerts, following on from the other member for Clark, Ms Ogilvie, talking about Van Diemen’s Band. I went to the last concert of Musica Viva in in Tasmania. Unfortunately Musica Viva was a small volunteer run organisation. They did not bounce back after COVID. As with many volunteer organisations, it was difficult to keep the organisation going. We are fortunate to have other offerings for classical music and chamber music in particular in Hobart and Tasmania.

I thank the president, Damian Stevens(ok), who worked really hard with his volunteer board, and the volunteers who were involved in presenting those concerts over many years, and the wonderful music that we heard. It was always a joy when I was on the council at Hobart, working in that building and having beautiful music being practised from the ballroom, just wafting through the buildings. There might be a place for the Steinway Model D piano, which is in Town Hall, it may find a new home downstairs. I would also like to just remember Mary Pridmore, who unfortunately is no longer alive. Mary Pridmore(ok) died some years ago now from motor neurone disease. Mary was also a stalwart of that organisation.

Finally, I would like to touch on the Safe Water Hobart and the petition in relation to the clean water for the Derwent catchment, a very important petition. I would like to thank Tabatha Badger, MP for Lyons, who presented that yesterday. There were 841 signatures for that petition, an important component of another volunteer organisation that is raising awareness in relation to the safe water and clean water that we require.

Time expired.
