As the minister with administrative responsibility for the Climate Change Act, even though you are not formally the minister for climate change, do you recognise that logging and burning native forests has a negative impact on the climate, and that if your government logs the 39,000 hectares, as it has said it will, that that will have a negative impact not only on the climate but also on our greenhouse accounts?
ANSWER
Mr President, I thank the member for the question. I absolutely recognise the impact of land use and future land use in Tasmania and its impact on our carbon accounting. Again, in relation to aspects of forestry, I have nothing in front of me, but as minister for Parks, regarding the 39,000 hectares of the wood bank that government policy would seek to unlock to provide certainty to our very important regrowth forest industry, I understand the question and your framing of it. As the minister responsible for climate change, yes, I understand the role that our land uses play in that accounting mechanism.
