Ms O’CONNOR question to MINISTER for PARKS, Mr DUIGAN
You would be very well aware of the mass mortality event that the salmon industry is experiencing now. As minister for Parks, you’re responsible for the Ninepin Point Marine Reserve, which sits just near Verona Sands and is on the external mouth of the Huon River. It is our understanding that dead salmon matter has washed across over the Ninepin Point Marine Reserve. Have you received any information or a briefing from your department on the impacts on this very important no take marine protected area?
ANSWER
Mr President, I thank the member for the question and note the very challenging circumstances being faced by the salmon industry in Tasmania and, of course, the flow-on effects that is having for communities in the southern and eastern part of the state. I would make the point this is a live investigation at the moment and is being handled by the EPA. I am aware of, at some level, the work that is undertaken in that space. To the point about that level of detail, that has not come to me at this time. I note this is work that is ongoing.
