Ms O’CONNOR question to MINISTER for PARKS, Mr DUIGAN

With respect, minister, that is not good enough. You are the Minister for Parks and responsible for the protection, management and maintenance of protected areas, whether they are terrestrial or marine protected areas.

To hear you shrug your shoulders and say this is a matter for the EPA, when we have information that an area for which you have ministerial responsibility has been adversely impacted by this mass mortality event and the dead and diseased fish that are washing out of the Huon Estuary. You are saying – can you confirm – that as minister for Parks you will take no action to investigate what has happened at the Ninepin Point Marine Reserve until you hear back from the EPA?

ANSWER

Mr President, I simply reiterate the point that this is a live and ongoing investigation being managed, as you would expect, by the Tasmanian independent Environment Protection Authority.

Ms O’Connor – I will simply reiterate you are abrogating your responsibility.
